“Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have 31, except for February, which has 28.” That’s the cumbersome yet successfully sticky mnemonic device we employ to remember how many days are in each month of the Gregorian Calendar, which is really important to us in light of Hmm Daily’s subscription to the Associated Press image service, because if we don’t use up our allotment of 30 images, they don’t roll over to the next month, and that’s a waste of good Associated Press imagery.
We successfully remembered that November hath’d 30 days, but we almost forgot what we were supposed to do with that knowledge, and on Nov. 30 downloaded our legal and lawful balance of unused downloadings in accordance with our contract. Inspired by the image-search discovery of the above Michael Jackson life mask from The Wiz, we present an unprecedented assemblage of images in honor of THE WIZ. Nobody beats it! Until it goes bankrupt!
The Wiz
Michael Jackson’s features as depicted in high relief via these life masks are strong and peaceful. The expressions convey the honesty of sleep. After a life that included many controversial cosmetic surgeries, he is now at rest, forever.
Wiz Khalifa
In terms of our monthly AP image purge, the significant thing about American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor Wiz Khalifa is the sheer preponderance of Wiz Khalifa images, dozens of ’em. We looked at so many pictures of Wiz Khalifa that we noticed there might be a competition between AP photographers to see who could get the best shot of Mr. Khalifa expelling smoke from his lungs.
The next shot is significant, for not depicting any smoke-blowing, at the Kids Choice Awards. Children are the future, and we salute the admirable restraint, on the part of either Mr. Khalifa, or maybe the Associated Press photographers, or possibly just the Associated Press photo editors.
To be fair, Mr. Khalifa provides the photographers some variety. It’s not just all blowing smoke.
Here’s our last Wiz Khalifa photo, showing the demographic of Baltimore, Maryland’s annual collegiate mating festival that occurs at the infield party during The Preakness, aka Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown of horseracing.
Wiz smart LED lights
We admit this one’s thin, but how many pictures of Wiz Khalifa do we need, it’s enough already.
KT Wiz
The great thing about the Hmm Daily Image Download Day is how much we learn when we’re trying to rack up our quota. We had no idea there was a South Korean baseball scandal!
Capt Ken “Wiz” Dwelle
The United States of America is a military power that prides itself on Air Superiority, so we bet Capt. Ken “Wiz” Dwelle was on the business end of some serious ribbing from his fellow F-117 Stealth Nighthawk pilots for providing this non-lethal photo opportunity of what’s left of the $111.2 million-worth of airplane he was piloting in 1999.
How do you spell “wiz”
The following images are more of an argument on how to spell “whiz,” as in the sound of something speeding by, but they ended up in our image search for The Wiz, so they’re welcome to join in this month’s celebration.
Reva G-Wiz
David Cameron fucked up the UK by allowing an ill-informed public referendum compelling Britain to exit the European Union, but this month we salute him for his statesmanlike photo-op with the Reva G-Wiz. According to Wikipedia, the Reva G-Wiz “does not meet the criteria to qualify as a highway-capable motor vehicle.” Into which category of government leader do you think David Cameron does not fit?
Washington Wizards mascot G-Wiz
Here’s another G-Wiz, and this one precedes the automobile version. It’s the floppily atavistic mascot (since 1997) of the hapless NBA Washington Wizards franchise. Did you know in the rush to change the original name of the team from the Baltimore Bullets, because bullets are bad, the Wizards were almost dubbed the Washington Sea Dogs? The Wizards are a rich and inspiring source of culture, always.
“Internet wiz” Mark Cuban
And with that NBA tip-in, here’s our final (and we contend incorrectly spelled) wiz in regular time, billionaire “internet wiz” and panelist on televisions’ Shark Tank, the shouty Mark Cuban.
This concludes our official observance of the celebration of Associated Press images featuring The Wiz, but as an epilogue we present these two screenshots of images that were not available in our “Editorial Plan.” The first image features licensed Veterinary professionals feeding “cheese wiz” to a cat, and the second image is a picture of a nightmarish fishing lure called “The Gee Wiz,” yow! We did not download the official hi-resolution images, but if the AP wants to get sticky about it we’ll consider coughing up the $35 per each. But really, totally unfair for these images not to be in our plan, just saying.
